Man faces ?475 bill for dodging Bradford to York rail fare | Bradford …

Amir Khan, 30, of Thorncliffe Road, Bradford, faced one charge of travelling on the railway without paying a fare.

He travelled between Bradford Interchange and York without paying the £20.20 fare.

During this journey, on February 2, at 8.04am he was asked by the conductor to produce a valid ticket, which he could not do.

He presented an Advance Single ticket from Bradford Interchange to York for the 9.08am only service. Khan did not have the money or means to purchase a valid ticket.

He was issued with an Unpaid Fares Notice to pay the fare within 21 days. He did not pay within the time limit, and two subsequent letters were sent to him, without a payment being made. But Khan failed to make the payment for the fine during the period.

Khan was fined £220, ordered to pay £150 costs, a £88 victim surcharge and £20.20 compensation for the rail offence, which totalled £478.20. A collection order was made by the court at Khan’s sentencing hearing.

Khan was sentenced in his absence at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court on June 30.
