Man dead after police find crashed car abandoned in the road
A man has died following a car crash in the early hours of this morning. Police arrived at the scene at Stable Hobba near Penzance in Cornwall shortly before 1am on Saturday morning to find an abandoned vehicle.
Shortly afterwards officers received a report of concern for the welfare of a man in Alverton Road, Penzance. When they reached the man he was found to be in cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other men have since been arrested, Devon & Cornwall Police have confirmed. A 29-year-old man from Penzance was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, CornwallLive reports[1].
A 26-year-old man from Penzance was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through alcohol and on suspicion of possession of a class B drug. Both men remain in custody, the force says.
Road closures in the area are expected to remain in place for "some time" and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.
The full statement from Devon and Cornwall Police reads: "Police are currently investigating a fatal road traffic collision which involved a car at Stable Hobba, Newlyn. When officers arrived, the vehicle was unattended and one person was thought to have left the scene.
"Soon after, at around 1am, police received a report of concern for welfare for a man in Alverton Road, Penzance. On arrival, police found a man in cardiac arrest and despite efforts to revive him by officers and paramedics, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.
"A 29-year-old man from Penzance was arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving. A 26-year-old man from Penzance was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through alcohol and on suspicion of possession of a class B drug. Both remain in police custody.
"Local road closures remain in place at both scenes and are likely to remain so for some time. Road users are advised to seek alternative routes. The incident is ongoing."
