Major Welsh road closed in both directions for over five hours

A major road has been shut in both directions with drivers asked to find alternative routes this afternoon. The A498 in Porthmadog in Gwynedd[1] was shut in both directions after the accident just before 11am this morning, Saturday, July 28.

The road links the A487 through Porthmadog and the A497 at the other side of the town centre. The incident is believed to have happened close to the turning to the town's Penamser area, North Wales Live reported.[2]

North Wales Police said in a statement this afternoon: "Police are currently dealing with an ongoing incident on the A498 Penamser area Porthmadog. The road is currently closed - please find an alternative route. Thank you for your patience."

Google traffic maps showed that traffic was coping well in the area.
