And with a ‘large quantity of oil’ on the carriageway part of the route was shut off for several hours. Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service[2] sent two engines to the scene after the alarm was raised just before 3.25pm.

The service said three people were able to get out of the vehicles involved and were checked over by paramedics. Meanwhile crews used ‘absorbent mats’ to soak up the oil and diesel leaking from the vehicles.

Police[4] say the smash took place near to Pitts Heath Roundabout. A spokesman said: “All of the occupants were out of the vehicles arrival at the scene. There were no reports of any serious injuries, but one person was taken to Warrington[5] District General Hospital as a precaution.
