‘Major disruption’ as police attend incident on Merseyrail line
Merseyrail is experiencing “major disruption” as police attend an incident on the line.
The travel provider released a statement at around 9.45pm on Friday, July 28, reporting services on the Ormskirk line were at a stand still due to a “concern for welfare” in the Aintree area. British Transport Police are at the scene and disruption is expected until at least 11pm.
An update on the Merseyrail[1] website said: “Due to a welfare incident at Aintree disruption is expected until 11pm. Train services from Ormskirk[2] may be cancelled or delayed.
“If you have been affected by today’s incident you may be entitled to a refund or compensation. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
The 9.37pm, 10.07pm, 10.37pm trains from Ormskirk to Liverpool Central[4] have all been cancelled. It’s unclear if a rail replacement bus service will be put in place.
UPDATE at 10.31pm: Merseyrail have said services on the Ormskirk line will resume soon
