M6 delays for seven miles after crash involving three lorries

There are major delays on the M6 this evening following a serious crash involving three lorries. Traffic was stopped in both directions earlier today, July 24, following the collision between J13 and J14 in Staffordshire[1].

National Highways said emergency services had been called to the scene and warned motorists to consider alternative routes as delays began to build up. In its latest update, the company said three lanes were now open but added there was now roughly seven miles of congestion on the motorway.

It wrote: “Three lanes (of four) are now open on the M6 northbound between J13 (Dunston) and J14 (Stafford). Lane four is closed for ongoing clear up works.

“There is now approx. 7 miles congestion on approach, causing delays of 90 minutes above usual journey times.”

Earlier this afternoon, National Highways added that recovery was en-route to remove from the vehicles. Pictures from the scene show emergency services at the scene and standstill traffic in both directions.
