Lorry trailer carrying timber and plastic goes up in flames
Fire crews have released more information on a dramatic lorry blaze in Somerset today (July 25).[1]
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received 'multiple calls' about the blaze, which broke out on Commercial Road, Shepton Mallet, shortly before 10am.
The trailer carrying wood and plastic and was caused by a tyre blow out, the fire service said.
The fire service said in a short statement on its incident log: "Multiple calls were received reporting a lorry on fire in Commercial Road, Shepton Mallet. One fire engine from Shepton Mallet and a fire engine from Wells attended this incident.
This was a fire involving a commercial trailer unit carrying timber and plastic. The tractor unit removed and not involved. Equipment used by crews included two breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one main jet, one safety jet and a thermal imaging camera.
"The fire was accidental caused by a tyre blow out on the trailer unit."
