SWR train services cancelled and delayed due to fallen tree on line …
Railway users were warned of delays after a tree fell on the line between Guildford and Haslemere in Surrey this morning (July 23). Operator South Western Railway (SWR) warned of delays, revisions and, even, cancellations following the incident, with disruption lasting until 11am.
To help with the disruption, tickets were accepted at no further cost on other lines and “specialist teams” worked to remove the tree as soon as they could. The incident was first reported on the traffic and travel[1] monitoring system Inrix shortly before 8.30am.
“We have been informed that there is a tree blocking the railway between Guildford[2] and Haslemere[3],” SWR said on its website. “This means that the line towards Haslemere is currently blocked. Our specialist teams are working to clear the tree from the track.”
In a post on its Twitter page just before 11am, SWR[5] said their trains were “running normally.”
