LIVE: ‘Severe’ delays on M6 as emergency repairs carried out

Motorists were warned a stretch of the M6 northbound was shut this morning – after a ‘defect’ was found. And specialist engineers were called to assess the discovery, with major disruption ongoing.

However it means the stretch between Junction 18 and 19 was closed this morning and afternoon. Meanwhile National Highways urged morning commuters to take a diversion.

A spokesperson said this morning: “The M6 is closed northbound between J18 (Holmes Chapel) and J19 (Knutsford) due to an infrastructure defect that was discovered during overnight planned works.

“Specialist engineers are working at the scene to investigate and assess the situation to reopen the road as soon as it is safe.”
