LIVE: M6 drivers hit by huge traffic delays both ways – updates

Long queues are building on a stretch of the M6 this morning after a lorry overturned.

Two lanes have been shut off on the southbound carriageway between junction 20 for the M56 Lymm Interchange and junction 19 for Knutsford, according to traffic alert service Inrix. Lanes one and two are closed.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 5.45am. Motorway cameras show queues building up to the incident this morning. There are severe delays, traffic services have said.

A tweet posted by the North West Motorway Police said: “M6 southbound between j20 and j19 Highways and Police are dealing with an RTC – lanes 1 and 2 are currently blocked, we now have standing traffic.”

There has also been a medial emergency on the northbound carriageway.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service posted at 7.30am: “M6 LANE CLOSURES: Emergency services are currently dealing with two separate incidents on the North and South bound carriageways. More details will be added to our website, expect lane closures and heavy traffic in both directions.”
