Live M11 updates as crash near Cambs today leaves motorway …

The M11 is affected by long delays near the Cambridgeshire border following a crash today (Saturday, July 1). Both the northbound and southbound carriageways were shut to traffic between Junction 8 and Junction 10 and queues continue.

A National Highways spokesperson said: “There are delays of up to 1 hour due to a collision on the M11 between J8 (London Stansted Airport) and J9 (Great Chesterford). Lane 2 (of 2) is closed in both directions due to a collision whereby a lorry has crossed the central reservation onto the opposite carriageway. Recovery are en route.

“There are delays of up to 90 minutes on the M11 northbound, approx. 6 miles of congestion. There are delays of up to 45 minutes on the M11 southbound, approx. 4 miles of congestion.

“If you’re heading north and travelling from further afield we recommend using the A1 north. If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”

Inrix, the traffic data company, said: “Queueing traffic and one lane closed due to recovery work and earlier accident, a lorry involved on M11 in both directions between J9 (Saffron Walden) and J8 A120 (Bishops Stortford). The road was blocked in both directions, lane two (of two) remains closed after a lorry crossed the central reservation.”
