Lifts at Catford station closed, again – South London News
Lifts at Catford station have been closed for the second time since they reopened after refurbishment last month.
Mark Morris, 54, from Bradgate Road, Catford[1], noticed that the two lifts were out of action when he visited the station[2] yesterday.
The lifts have been installed by contractors working for Network Rail.[3]
Work to install two lifts started in early 2022 and they were set to reopen by October 2022.
Eight months later, in June 2023, the lifts were reopened.
Mr Morris said that after working for a few days the lifts were closed for a few weeks, they then re-opened for a few days and now are once again closed.
He said: “Catford residents were promised that it would have lifts finally installed by October 2022.
“The delays in installing them and now the problems with them even working are just appalling.
“However what is most insulting is that in addition to the station remaining inaccessible for so many people Network Rail are not keeping Catford residents updated.
“Is it really too much that to ask that they just put out a sign at the station and try to explain the current fiasco?”
A sopokesman from Network Rail said: “We’re really sorry to passengers who have been recently unable to use the lifts at Catford station.
“Both lifts have been working successfully over the past few weeks, however the lifts have since been experiencing some technical issues which has meant we’ve had to temporarily close them while our lift engineers investigate the issue.
“We’re grateful to passengers for their understanding and thank them for their patience during this time.”
