Latest M42 traffic update as crash victim seriously injured and lanes …

All lanes of the M42 northbound near Junction 6 are back open this morning after a horror crash left a woman with "life-changing injuries". The incident happened yesterday, July 25, and saw a smash between a lorry and a van not far from Birmingham Airport[1].

The serious collision[2] left the stretch impacted for hours. The crash victim, who was a passenger in the van, was cut free from wreckage and airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital[3] for treatment.

The van driver was taken to the same medical centre with non-serious injuries. The driver of the lorry - which was transporting cars - did not require further treatment and was discharged at the scene.

Last night, West Midlands Police[5] launched an appeal for information. A spokesperson for the force said it had launched an investigation.

Det Sgt Paul Hughes, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “I’m really keen to hear from any witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage. In particular, I’m trying to identify the driver of a blue articulated HGV curtain side trailer which was in lane 1 just in front of the vehicles involved when the collision occurred. This person could be a key witness.”

Traffic management system Inrix this morning, July 26, issued an update. It said: "Slow traffic due to an earlier accident. A lorry was involved on M42 northbound. All lanes have been re-opened."

Anyone with information should contact police by calling 101, quoting log number 2204.
