In the dock: The criminals sentenced in Southampton in June

Here is a round-up of some of the biggest cases heard in Southampton[1] in the past 30 days.

Craig Proctor

Craig Proctor was jailed after a horror crash which killed a young mum-of-one in Southampton.

The 38-year-old had been drinking in two different pubs hours before the crash on Kanes Hill.

Mia Wort was a passenger in her boyfriend's Ford Focus and suffered "unsurvivable" injuries.

The young mum later died in hospital.

Procter was jailed for eight years and six months.

Teen killer

A 17-year-old boy was jailed after he crashed a stolen motorbike and killed his 14-year-old pillion passenger. 

Layton Cashmore died when the motorbike was crashed at 80mph on Hill Lane last year. 

The 17-year-old rider, who cannot be named because of his age, has been jailed for six years with a three-year extended licence.

The Daily Echo requested no reporting restrictions should be made under section 45 of the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999 with regards to the defendant's name.

Tommy O’Leary

Tommy O’Leary snuck into a blind and deaf pensioner's home and struck him over the head with a bottle before taking his belongings.

The 50-year-old stole a specialised laptop and hearing aid accessories from the victim's home in Chandler's Ford.

He struck 77-year-old Peter Chapman[4] with a glass bottle causing blood to pour out of his head.

The victim, who is partially deaf and has been registered blind since 1991, suffered two cuts to his head and was taken to hospital.

O’Leary, who has 33 previous convictions for 89 offences including 19 dwelling burglaries was jailed for 12 years for the violent incident.

Liam Davey

Paedophile Liam Davey was caught with indecent images of children, some of whom were as young as six.

The 27-year-old had more than 70 images after police seized his devices on two separate occasions.

Of these, 10 or 12 had been saved with some depicting children as young as six or seven.

Davey was sentenced to 16 months imprisonment suspended for two years and made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for five years.

Countryside Partnership Southern and Baram Ltd

Countryside Partnership Southern and Baram Ltd have been fined hundreds of thousands of pounds after a pensioner lost her legs when she was struck by a lorry. 

The woman, 94, was walking along Mortimers Lane with her friend when she was struck by a lorry in April 2021.

Building materials were being delivered to the Pembers Hill Park Development, managed by Drew Smith Homes.

The delivery driver was met by a traffic marshall from Baram Ltd, which was a sub-contractor for Drew Smith, now known as Countryside Partnership Southern.

Baram Ltd was ordered to pay a £80,000 fine, £190 victim surcharge, and £2,829.35 in costs.

Countryside Partnership Southern was handed a £53,000 fine and ordered to pay a £190 victim surcharge, and £2,829.35 in costs.

Johnson Kubelabo

Johnson Kubelabo stalked a woman for several weeks. 

The 26-year-old was described as an "obsessive and persistent" stalker. 

Police suspect the defendant also targeted victims who have not come forward.

The 26-year-old of Brunswick Place was jailed for two years.

Gang jailed

Three members of a gang who burgled businesses across the south have been sentenced for their crimes.

Described as a large-scale conspiracy, the crime spree saw Mark Stephen Brady, Connor Steven Hampton and Liam Michael Grundy travel across Hampshire, Surrey, Dorset, Avon & Somerset, Sussex and Wiltshire in stolen cars to target local businesses.

The charges relate to 26 burglaries, with the value of goods stolen and damage caused coming in at £418,000.

The trio were jailed for a combined number of years this week.
