Huge M5 queues after caravan crash on Westcountry holiday route

Motorists heading towards Gloucestershire from the West Country on the M5 are facing huge delays on Wednesday afternoon (July 5). It follows a caravan overturning on the northbound carriageway in Somerset.

Delays of around an hour have been reported with two lanes being closed between junction 22 for Burnham-on-Sea to junction 21 for Weston-super-Mare. Motorists have faced around five miles of congestion.

The incident happened at around 12.30pm. At one point, all lanes were blocked for recovery of the striken vehicle.

Traffic and travel site Inrix reported in its latest update at 2.20pm: “Severe delays and queueing traffic due to earlier accident on M5 Northbound from Sedgemoor Services to J21 A370 (Weston-super-mare). Congestion to traffic is diverting away from J22 (Burnham-on-sea) exit slip. All lanes have been re-opened.”
