Heavy traffic still in place on M6 southbound in Warrington

Emergency services were called to the incident on M6 southbound between junction 20, Lymm, and junction 19, Knutsford at around 5.40am this morning, Friday.

Police, fire, ambulance, and a major rescue unit attended the scene.

Fire crews rescued one casualty from the lorry before handing them to the care of paramedics.

According to a Cheshire Police spokesperson, the driver sustained minor injuries but was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital.

A diesel leak was also dealt with by firefighters who notified the Environment Agency.

More than 10 hours later, one lane remains closed due to emergency repairs of a nearside barrier.

Traffic is still queuing with congestion stretching back 10 miles to junction 22, Newton-le-Willows.

Travel time is currently around 45 minutes.

The incident has also affected traffic in Warrington itself with queues stretching back past Bridge Foot from Stretton.

Lanes 1 & 2 (of 3) remain closed on the #M6[1] southbound between J20 & J19 near #Warrington[2] due to a collision involving an overturned HGV.

Recovery is now underway at scene.
