Greater Anglia train delays as broken down train near Manningtree …

A broken down train has caused delays and cancellations on the Greater Anglia network. The issues are a result of a Network Rail engineering train coming to a halt in the Manningtree area.

Greater Anglia says the engineering train has a fault “which can not be rectified”. It means trains between London Liverpool Street and Ipswich and Norwich – which travels through Essex – will be delayed, altered or cancelled at short notice.

A “limited number” of rail replacement buses have been sourced to carry passengers between Colchester and Ipswich. Several trains have already been impacted by the issue.

They include the 12.52, 13.52 and 14.51 services from Ipswich to London and the 13.02 and 14.02 services from London to Ipswich. Trains from Ipswich will now start at Colchester, whilst services from London will terminate at Colchester.

A spokesperson for Greater Anglia said: “The train requires assistance and a rescue train has been sourced and is on route to Manningtree. A fitter is also en route.

“At present, the Liverpool Street to Ipswich services will terminate and start from Colchester. The Liverpool Street to Norwich services will run through Manningtree, however due to only one track available for use at Manningtree trains will be severely delayed.

“A limited number of rail replacement buses operated by Panther Travel and St Edmunds Travel have been sourced and will shuttle between Colchester and Ipswich until further notice. Greater Anglia and Network Rail are sorry if your journey has been affected by this disruption.”
