Former Wisbech barber shop to be converted into takeaway as …
A new takeaway restaurant is due to open in Wisbech[1] after plans were recently given the green light. The decision was confirmed by Fenland District Council[2] at a meeting on Tuesday (July 18).
The plans will see the change of use of premises on 50 West Street which will involve transform into a new food business. The building was previously occupied by a barber shop which recently closed down.
The takeaway is set to employ two people according to an application form. The form listed its opening hours as 4pm until 11pm each day.
Among the works carried out to the property include the installation of an extractor unit as well as new signage. The barber's pole will also be removed from the front of the shop.
When the application was put forward, a number of objections were raised, including by Wisbech Town Council. They expressed concern over the increase of on-street parking as well as the "detrimental impact on highway safety".
However. Cambridgeshire[4] County Council's highways department said it had no objections. They said that there were already extensive parking restrictions nearby and the new takeaway was "unlikely to have a detrimental impact on highway safety".
A design and access statement with the application said: "50 West Street is a former barber shop situated on the fringe of a busy commercial area of Wisbech. This application seeks approval to convert and rejuvenate this building into a hot food takeaway that allows the tenant to run a profitable business.
"We believe this proposal has very little impact on the surrounding characteristics of the area and will blend with the existing takeaway establishments in the area. It will serve to utilise a dilapidated unused building and improve the internal layout for optimal commercial use for it’s tenants."
The application is available to view in full on the Fenland District Council planning portal. This can be done by using the reference F/YR22/1107/F or clicking here[5].
