Escaped horse dies and second one hurt after being hit by cars

A horse died and second one was hurt after they escaped from a field and were hit by cars. Multiple drivers raised the alarm after five loose horses were spotted in Tixall Road and later Holdiford Road in Stafford[1].

Two of the horses were struck by vehicles with one of them being fatally injured. The four surviving horses - which had ran off from nearby stables - are now being kept in a 'place of safety' following the incident late last Thursday (July 13).

A Staffordshire Police[2] spokesman said: "We were called at around 10pm on July 13 following reports of five loose horses on Tixall Road, Stafford.

"The horses, which had escaped from a nearby stables, were later spotted on Holdiford Road where we continued to receive calls from concerned drivers.

"Unfortunately, two of the horses were then involved in collisions with two cars. One of the horses sadly died after suffering serious injuries. The other horses were safely removed from the road by officers and members of the public. They are now in a place of safety.

"Colleagues from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service also attended the scene to assist with clearing the road."
