Driver in Royal Stoke as ‘medical episode’ at wheel sees car smash …
A driver has been taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital after suffering a suspected medical episode at the wheel – before ploughing into a lamppost.
Emergency service were called to the A50 in Fenton this afternoon, July 26, at around 3pm after witnesses called 999 to report the collision.
The road had to be shut in both directions between Heron Cross at King Street after the accident, which travel updates system Inrix said had happened in Duke Street. The road had reopened as of around 5.30pm.
And now a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson has said: “We were called to reports of a car that had crashed into a lamppost on the A50 in Fenton at 3.02pm. Two ambulances attended the scene.
“On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, who was the driver. He was treated for a suspected medical episode before being taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital.”
Staffordshire Police has been contacted for a statement.
