Neighbours said the smoke from the fire had started to billow over their gardens[2]. The car, parked close to the Young People’s Centre, was well alight when crews arrived.

One resident living nearby said: “We were having lunch and saw what looked like dark clouds over our garden[3]. It then became clear that it was from a fire.

“After crossing the road, we saw a car well alight with the sound of a fire[5] engine getting closer. When the engine arrived, it couldn't fit under a barrier but the firefighters were able to get through and use their hoses to put the flames out.”

Nobody was injured in the blaze. A spokesman for Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue said: “We were called at 12.05pm to reports of a car on fire. We sent one appliance from Cheltenham East to tackle the blaze[6].

"The car was destroyed in the blaze[7]. No other vehicles were involved."
