Danger at major Stoke-on-Trent junction as traffic lights malfunction
Drivers are being warned the traffic lights at a major Stoke-on-Trent junction have malfunctioned. The lights in both directions have stopped working this morning, July 4, at the Lime Kiln junction.
The lights that are out are located on the A52 Leek Road at the turning for the A5008 Bucknall Road, according to traffic and travel updates service Inrix.
A spokesman for the service said: “Traffic lights not working on A52 Leek Road in both directions at A5008 Bucknall Road (Lime Kiln Traffic Lights). Traffic is coping well. Approach with care.”
It is not the first time the Lime Kiln lights have gone out, with one passenger describing chaotic scenes in April, with drivers having to give way to one another on the fly.
She said: “A lot of cars were staying still, but there were quite a few zooming through. Every light was out. It was a free for all, but I could see an accident coming when we went through. My husband was driving and just took his time, but he did have to move quick in the end. There were lots of horns going.”
National Grid and highways authority Staffordshire County Council have been approached for comment on when the lights are likely to be fixed.
