Crash on A13 Pitsea Flyover leaves woman dead and two other …
A young woman has died following a crash on a major Essex road on Saturday (July 1). The A13 was closed in both directions for just over ten hours following an incident on Pitsea flyover, which has left one person dead and others critically injured.
The crash was first reported at around 2.30pm. Police described the incident as “serious” and claims of “multiple air ambulances” to have been sent to the scene.
Essex Police said the incident involved one vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old woman, died at the scene. The four other occupants of the car remain in hospital, two of them in a critical condition.
Essex Police says the woman’s family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. The road was closed from 2.30pm to around 11pm whilst investigations were carried out.
Police were supported by colleagues from Essex Fire and Rescue Service and the East of England Ambulance Service Trust. The road below the flyover had to be temporarily closed due to dangers around debris falling.
Detective Sergeant Sam Nason from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit said “This was a tragic collision, and our thoughts are with those involved. We are continuing multiple enquiries this morning including speaking with witnesses and reviewing CCTV and dashcam.
“We believe there were a number of witnesses, many of whom helped those involved. We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision or have any CCTV or dashcam to get in contact.”
A spokesperson for Essex Police yesterday (July 1) said: “We appreciate that those at the scene may be distressed and we’d encourage anyone who is struggling to reach out and speak with Mind charity, who can provide support.”
