Car ‘driven into the sea’ at Gwynedd beach

A car was “driven into the sea” in a incident at a Gwynedd[1] village. North Wales Police[2] were alerted to the incident this evening and contacted the Aberdyfi coastguard rescue team to assist.

They raced to the scene to support officers from North Wales Police. Once there they found police were looking after one casualty.

The coastguard team then checked the submerged vehicle to ensure there were no other people or animals inside. They then assisted in extracting the car.

The Aberdyfi coastguard rescue team said: “Team tasked by North Wales Police to Tywyn to assist with reports of a car driven into the sea. On arrival the casualty was already being cared for by the police, and we were asked to check the submerged vehicle for other occupants or animals.

“We then assisted Aberdyfi harbourmaster with extraction of the vehicle to a place of safety.”

They said anyone who witnesses an incident on the coastline should call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
