Cambs trains disrupted due to ‘damage’ to overhead wires …

Trains between Cambridge and Ely will be disrupted due to damage to overhead electric wires. A spokesperson for Greater Anglia said disruption is expected until 2am on Wednesday (August 2).

Trains running between Cambridge and Ely[1] have to run at reduced speeds due to the damage. This means services may be cancelled, delayed, or revised.

A Greater Anglia spokesperson said on Monday (July 31): “Due to congestion caused by a speed restriction being imposed following damaged overhead electrical wires identified in the Waterbeach area, services between Cambridge and Ely are experiencing delays of up to 15 minutes.

“This may also lead to some services being cancelled or amended at short notice. Network Rail engineers are working effectively to replace the damaged components within a reasonable timescale.

“Owing to extensive repairs required to fix the fault, the works are not expected to be completed until at least Wednesday morning. Please allow additional time for your journey.”

The spokesperson said if passenger journeys are delayed by 15 minutes or more, they may be entitled to compensation for a portion of the train fare. They said: “Greater Anglia and Network Rail are sorry if your journey has been affected by this disruption.”
