Cambs locals in stitches after road sign painted incorrectly in same …

Cambridge residents were baffled after roadworkers incorrectly painted a road marking upside down. Winci Tam, 55, spotted the sign on Kendal Way at its junction with Milton Road last week.

Ms Tam said at first she checked the Highway Code in case it was a new instruction, but was "amused" to discover that it was just "topsy-turvy". The Greater Cambridge Partnership, which is overseeing work along Milton Road, apologised and repainted it the right way round.

However the saga did not end there and it was put too close to the dashed lines and had to be repainted for a third time, much to the amusement of residents.

Ms Tam, who works as an engineer, previously said she was not sure the amended version was any better and it looked like "a poor, quick fix". And when she returned a few days later she saw road workers had made yet another amendment.

It has now been resurfaced over, with the triangle painted further away from the junction and the right way up. Ms Tam posted photos of the botched job to Facebook[2], and people who have been following the progress have been left scratching their heads.

One wrote: "This is absolutely brilliant entertainment." Another described it as "hysterical", while one asked: "Can we all have a go?"

A spokesman for the Greater Cambridge Partnership, which is overseeing the £24m upgrade in the area, said work at the junction with Kendal Way had "resulted in the removal of the road markings.

Third time lucky - You have probably looked at so many road signs even the right one looks weird now (SWNS)

They added: "Our contractors, as a temporary measure, repainted the road markings to enable road users to safely get in and out of Kendal Way.

"We became aware these temporary road markings were incorrect and so this was swiftly readdressed by the contractors, and then further refined to reflect the relevant guidance. We apologise for any inconvenience this additional work caused. Once the Milton Road scheme is complete, the junction will have been resurfaced and repainted."
