Ambulance ends up in ditch following crash at notorious Fenland …
Emergency services have been busy dealing with two incidents that happened within a few miles of each other and just minutes apart – including one involving an ambulance.
Both happened close to two of Fenland’s most notorious bridges.
The first incident on the Sixteen Foot has left drivers facing a detour while an ambulance is recovered from a ditch.
It happened at around 12.20pm near Boots Bridge on Manea Road, Wimblington at the junction with the Sixteen Foot.
A police spokesperson said: “We were called at 12.20pm with reports of a collision between an ambulance and a car near Boots Bridge on Manea Road, Wimblington.
“Officers attended, together with firefighters and paramedics. No-one is believed to have been seriously injured but the ambulance has left the road and gone into a ditch.
“As a result the B1093 junction with Manea Road and Wimblington Road is currently closed. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.”
The second happened at 12.31pm again on the Sixteen Foot road, this time it involved one of Britain’s most bashed bridges – the Stonea railway underpass.
The spokesperson said: “We were called at 12.31pm with reports that a vehicle had struck the railway bridge at Sixteen Foot Bank. There were no reported injuries but officers attended to assist with recovery and minimise any further damage to the bridge or interruption to the rail network.”
