Emergency services are at the scene of a crash on the A171 at Moorsholm which is causing long tailbacks for motorists.

Cleveland Police[1] has warned the road, which links Teesside and Whitby[2], is expected to be blocked for some time while vehicles are recovered. There are tailbacks in both directions near The Jolly Sailors Pub following the incident.

Emergency services are at the scene dealing with the incident. Motorists are being urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes while the road remains blocked.

It has not been confirmed how many vehicles are involved in the crash, nor if anyone has been injured. The AA is reporting that the road is closed between the Danby turn-off to the Moorsholm turn-off.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police: “Due to an road traffic collision, there are traffic tailbacks on the A171 at Moorsholm towards Whitby (near The Jolly Sailors Pub). Emergency services are on scene.

“The road is expected to be blocked for some time whilst vehicle recovery and road cleaning takes place. Please avoid the area and use alternative routes.”

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 1.23pm this afternoon, Friday, July 7, to reports of a road traffic incident on the A171 (Moor Road) in Teesside.

“We dispatched an ambulance crew who was supported by an off-duty paramedic on-scene. One patient was treated and discharged on scene, and our services were stood down.”
