About 20 eco activists dressed in orange Hi-Vis vests and holding banners assembled in the middle of a road near Blackheath, south-east London, from 8 am this morning, as part of the group’s slow walk protests across the capital[2].
Footage shows a standoff between demonstrators[3] holding signs saying “End the fossil fuel era now[4]” and a queue of lorries jostling to drive around them.
One HGV passenger, whose vehicle was forced to inch into another lane to get past the protesters, rolled down his window and said: “What are your clothes, what are your shoes, mate? Rubber! Made from f—–g oil!”
Activists[5] who were blocking roads at Gunnersbury Avenue in Ealing, west London, were moved on by police shortly before 9 am, but they later caused further disruption to rush-hour traffic at busy hotspots, Mail Online reports.
A mass of slow-moving cyclists made their way down Grosvenor Place in Victoria, near Hyde Park, covering the entire road, leaving taxis, buses and other vehicles stuck behind them.
Police removed them from the road at about 9.30 am.
