Witness appeal as man, 79, hit by lorry and killed on major road
Police are continuing to appeal for information after an elderly man died after being hit by a lorry. Tragically, nothing could be done to save the 79-year-old pedestrian, who was confirmed dead at the scene.
The collision happened on the Birmingham New Road, Coseley, on Thursday, June 8. Emergency services were called to the scene, near Roseville, at 9.36am.
West Midlands Police[1] said the man's family were being supported by specially trained officers. The force said the lorry driver was assisting officers with their inquiries.
The road was closed for more than seven hours[2] in the aftermath of the tragedy, with a cordon in place between McDonald's[3] and Vicarage Road. It reopened at around 4.45pm.
Sergeant Julie Lyman, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We have specially trained officers who are supporting the man’s family at this very difficult time. We are in the early stages of our investigation and we urge witnesses to the collision, or anyone who has dashcam or CCTV footage, to please contact us.”
Witnesses, or anyone who has dashcam or CCTV footage, are urged to contact police on 101, quoting log number 1175 of 8/6/23. Alternatively, email [email protected] or visit www.west-midlands.police.uk and use the live chat facility.
