Wilburton crash leaves two drivers seriously injured …

Two people have been seriously injured following a two-car crash on a Cambridgeshire road. Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the incident on Twentypence Road in Wilburton, near Ely, shortly after 8am on Monday, June 5.

The crash involved a black Vauxhall Corsa and a black Vauxhall Insignia.[1] The drivers of both vehicles, a woman in the Corsa and a man in the Insignia, were taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital with serious injuries.

The road was closed for the entire morning. It reopened to traffic at around 1.30pm.

A Cambridgeshire Police[3] spokesperson said: “Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone who has dashcam footage of the moments leading up to it. Anyone with any information should contact police online or via 101 quoting incident 71 of 5 June.”

A Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service[4] spokesperson said: “At 8.01am on Monday (5) crews from Cottenham and Ely[5] were called to a road traffic collision on the B1049 in Wilburton. Firefighters arrived to find a collision involving two vehicles, with one in a ditch.

“Using specialist equipment they released a casualty who was left in the care of ambulance crews. Two people were out of their vehicle when the crews arrived. The crews returned to their stations by 10.10am.”
