Three weekly Alicante flights from Teesside Airport announced

Teesside Airport[1] has announced flights to Alicante three times a week.

Ryanair has revealed that, from October 29, it will run from Teesside on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays adding an extra 20,000 seats to its service.

This now means Teessiders can jet to the popular Spanish city for breaks of 3, 7, 10, 11 and 14 nights. Passengers are currently enjoying trips to Alicante as part of the airline’s full programme of summer flights, which also includes Corfu, Faro in Portugal and Majorca.

Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen said: “These new flights are adding thousands more seats to keep up with the ever-growing demand following our best year in more than a decade in 2022 and this summer season is already off to a flying start.

“We’re continuing to get our name out there - with our shortlist entry in the prestigious TTG industry awards.”

The news comes after it was announced Teesside Airport had been shortlisted in the Travel Trade Gazette’s annual Trade Industry Awards in the UK & Irish Airport of the Year category. The category is judged by a panel of industry experts and the winner will be revealed on September 28.

Also, TUI, one of the UK’s biggest travel companies, has launched flights to Antalya and Turkey and Majora and Balkan holidays is offering services to Bulgaria. If people are wanting to go further afield, they can travel worldwide from Teesside to 200 destinations with KLM’s thrice-daily flights to Amsterdam Schiphol.

Flights are now on sale for summer 2024. This includes TUI’s new service to Dalaman, Turkey.

Last year in May, however, Teesside Airport lost its flights to London[3], 14 months after it was reinstated. At the time, rising costs were blamed after the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) granted permission for a 37% increase in landing fees. This meant the route to Heathrow, Britain’s biggest airport, was no longer viable.

TVCA bosses say the return of a London route is on the cards should demand pick up.
