Thief crashed stolen car injuring two ‘friends’ after police chase
A thief from Tamworth[1] who crashed a car stolen from Sutton Coldfield[2] injuring two passenger ‘friends’, with one requiring heart surgery, has been jailed. Daniel Williams, from Moor Lane in Amington was at the wheel of a car in Wood End, a village in North Warwickshire[3], when he was being pursued by police on the evening of Wednesday, October 19.
Warwickshire Police were responding to reports of people trying to steal cars in nearby Dordon. Williams drove at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour in 30 zones, before crashing in Edge Hill, Wood End.
He fled the scene leaving two of the passengers with life-changing injuries. A witness said Williams ran as one of the passengers was ‘screaming for help’.
The front seat passenger suffered numerous fractures and a ruptured aorta that required heart surgery. The rear passenger suffered fractures to his pelvis and leg.
The 36-year-old was caught nearby. Police discovered the car he was driving had been stolen from Sutton Coldfield in September 2022.
Williams was jailed for six years at Warwick Crown Court last week after pleading guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving, conspiracy to steal a motor vehicle, driving without insurance and aggravated vehicle taking.
Detective Constable Sian Cook from Warwickshire Police Reactive CID said: “Williams ran off leaving his mates in agony screaming for help and has shown no remorse. With friends like him who needs enemies.
“Williams will be out in six years. The two injured in the crash will live with the scars of his recklessness for the rest of their lives.”
