Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service say four engines have been called out after a ‘multiple vehicle road traffic collision’ on the A30 in Penzance.

It involved a tanker lorry and a car, with the road closed in both directions between Heamoor and Alverton roundabouts.

Traffic reports from Inrix say traffic has been ‘coping well’ following the incident, despite the A30 being closed in both directions and the fuel spillage.

Fire engines from Penzance, St Just and Tolvaddon were all rushed to respond at the scene following the incident, which happened at about 15:25 this afternoon (June 8).

It’s reported one person was trapped, with the driver of one of the vehicles having to be cut out.

Devon and Cornwall Police tell us that the road is set to remain closed ‘for some time’ – and at least until the end of the evening – because of the size of the tanker involved and the extent of the spillage.
