Somerset man banned from owning dogs after pet offences

A Somerset man has been banned from owning dogs after pleading guilty to pet offences. Samuel Aaron Rigby recently appeared in court for mistreatment of a pet dog.

The details of people recently convicted at Taunton Magistrates’ Court can be seen below. Magistrates’ courts deals with more than 90 per cent of criminal cases.

These cases include low-level offences, predominantly motoring charges. The details published below are from the official court register.

Samuel Aaron Rigby, 26, of Riverside, Horton, Ilminster, pleaded guilty to the charge of, between January 2 2023 and January 23 2023 at Ilminster, not taking steps to ensure that the needs of an animal for which he was responsible, namely a white Mastiff cross breed type dog, were met, in that he failed to provide adequate nutrition for the animal’s needs and failed to provide veterinary treatment for weight loss and general ill health. Rigby was banned from owning dogs for two years, fined £460 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £184 and £400 costs.

Sarah Elizabeth Howard, 28, of Grove Close, Watchet, was proved guilty of the charges of, on June 18 2022 at North Road Williton:

  • Driving without insurance
  • Failing to comply with the indication given by a directional arrow sign

Howard was disqualified from driving for six months, fined £660 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £264 and £85 costs.

Katrina Marsden, 58, of Crispin Street, St Helens, Merseyside, pleaded guilty to the charge of, on May 25 2022 at the B3440 in Worle, driving at 38mph, a speed exceeding 30mph. Marsden was given three driving points, fined £200 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34 and £90 costs.

Justin Patrick Ottery, 44, of Station Approach South, Taunton, pleaded guilty to the charge of, on May 26 2022 at the M5, driving at 85mph, a speed exceeding 70mph. Ottery was given three driving points, fined £150 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34 and £90 costs.

Jonathan Saunders, 61, of Stockwell Road, Taunton, pleaded guilty to the charges of:

  • On May 18 2022 at the B3170 in Taunton, driving at 35mph, a speed exceeding 30mph
  • On September 18 2022 at the B3170 in Taunton, driving at 44mph, a speed exceeding 30mph

Saunders was given a total of six driving points, fined a total of £1,015, and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £101 and a total of £180 in costs.

Paulo Roberto Carreira, 53, of Leycroft Grove, Taunton, was proved guilty of the charges of:

  • On February 14 2022 at the A3259 in Monkton Heathfield, driving at 27mph, a speed exceeding 20mph
  • On March 12 2022 at the M5, driving at 85mph, a speed exceeding 70mph

Carreira was disqualified from driving for 21 days, fined a total of £80 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34.

Ashley Christopher Leatherland, 29, of Laxton Road, Taunton, admitting to breaching the supervision requirements imposed following a period of imprisonment. Magistrates ruled that the requirements should continue and Leatherland was fined £20.

A woman from Bridgwater was proved guilty of the charge of, between November 11 2021 and September 12 2022 at Bridgwater, being the parent of a child who was registered at a school and failed to attend that school regularly. The woman was fined £440 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £44 and £120 costs. The identity of the woman has not been revealed to protect the identity of the child.

Adam Rigby, 45, of Stanmore Road, Athelney, Bridgwater, pleaded guilty to the charge of, on August 5 2022 at the M5, driving at 81mph, a speed exceeding 70mph. Rigby was given three driving points, fined £192 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £77 and £85 costs.
