Residents ridicule fence built over path – and no one knows who put …
Mystery shrouds odd fencing which blocks a path on a new-build housing[1] estate – as no one seems to know who put it up.
Residents in Guisborough, Teesside, have ridiculed the additional fence rail, which now connects to separate structures – and blocks a path to and from homes.
Avant Homes, which is behind the new development, was blamed by some for the misplaced fence rails, but the company denied any involvement. A spokesperson told Teesside Live[2] it had “no knowledge of, nor involvement with, the erection of the fence”.
They added: “We can only assume it was done so by a third-party unknown to us.”

Yet Redcar and Cleveland Council believes a member of the public erected the fence rail.
Writing on Facebook[4], residents mocked the gaffe.
One man posted: “Whoever erected it will have to remove it and I assume that the council will refuse to adopt the estate until the work is complete.”
Another resident shared: “If these people had brains they would be dangerous, it just beggars belief.”
One woman posted: “This is a joke, shocking.”
The additional fence rail has now been removed, the council, which has no overall political control, added.
A spokesperson for the authority continued: “Our highways and planning officers work closely together with both residents and developers to help, advise and ensure that new construction projects are safe and progress in a way which best serves the public. In this instance it appears a member of the public added a fence rail which blocked a new path.
“We are pleased to report that the construction company has informed us it has since removed the post and rail and access to the path is now safe and usable.”
