Proposals submitted for new houses on outskirts of town centre
Proposals have been put forward to demolish a single home and build seven more in a Lincolnshire town. Plans have been put to North Kesteven District Council[1] to knock down number 14 on Meadowfield in Sleaford[2] and build seven bungalows to the rear.
Approval was granted to Robert Doughty Consultancy for a similar scheme back in 2018, which involved the demolition of the same address and the construction of four bungalows. Though the council voted in favour of the application, 16 objections were lodged by nearby residents, who cited the potential loss of privacy and traffic levels as reasons not to go ahead with the small estate.
But the new applicants say their bungalows will be smaller and have a less significant impact on the surrounding area, in a design statement compiled by Paul Bancroft Architects. They submitted the proposals to the planning committee on May 23, hoping to build three pairs of two-bedroomed semi-detached bungalows and a single detached bungalow on the land.

With the bungalows only comprising a single storey each, they will be 'screened' from public view by the surrounding two-storey homes. While 'traditional' in appearance, the interiors will be partly open plan and designed with a 'contemporary' feel in mind, the applicants said.
Additionally, the homes will, where possible, be accessible and adaptable to suit older people and those with disabilities. The homes will have parking spaces to their sides and gardens to their rear and would be mainly semi-detached residences.
The applicant added that there is a 'general absence' of bungalows in Sleaford. Only one comment has been left on the planning portal, a neutral observation by a man with a Birmingham address.
He urged the developers to take care and follow the proper precautions for dealing with swifts, a type of bird.
