Plans lodged for GP extension and new pharmacy

Plans have been lodged to extend a GP practice and build a new pharmacy in Coulby Newham[1].

Middlesbrough Council[2] will now need to decide whether to give the go ahead for the proposals for Coulby Medical Practice on Cropton Way. It claims the extra space is needed due to the number of patients increasing dramatically since 2001.

The surgery will expand into the pharmacy next door according to the plans. The application states the changes would have a minimal effect on the area's appearance.

To replace the loss of the pharmacy, another will be built nearby. The site is just a stone’s throw from the area's Parkway Centre.

The drawings show proposals for 24 consultation rooms, treatment rooms and a play area in the waiting room. The doctors’ surgery will expand from 898m2 to 1339m2 if the plans are given the green light.

The decision could either be made by a council officer or a planning committee made up of councillors. The committee is chaired by Labour[4]’s Cllr Julia Rostron, who was elected to the position by politicians following the May elections.
