New ‘local service’ Post Office opening after main branch closes in …
A new-style Post Office will open in an Essex town tomorrow (June 14), a week after the closure of the current branch. The West Mersea Post Office is being changed into a new-style Post Office Local service with a post office serving point inside a convenience store.
The previous branch at 30 High Street in West Mersea was operated by a temporary Postmaster. While the arrangement temporarily enables customers to access Post Office services on the island, the new location will provide permanent services to the local community, the Post Office has said.
The new Post Office will be located inside the Mersea Island Supermarket at 46 High Street. The new post office will be open for an extra 18 hours and 30 minutes a week than previously, as it includes Saturday morning openings and earlier opening and later closing times.
The Post Office say the range of products and services on offer will remain similar in the new branch. However, On-Demand Travel Insurance will not be available, and there will only be a limited range of Travel Money.
Allison Wallace, Post Office Network Provision Manager, said: “We are delighted that we will soon have a permanent, full-time Post Office at this new location offering longer hours than currently and safeguarding service for the community.”
The old branch at 30 High Street closed on Friday, June 9 at 4pm, with the new branch opening, at Mersea Island Supermarket, on Wednesday 14 June at 1pm.
