Neighbours speak of shock after car crashes into house and …

Neighbours have spoken of their horror as a car burst into flames at Alderminster Road in Coventry[1] yesterday evening (June 13). Around 7pm a car crashed into a house and telegraph pole, before exploding into flames.

Neighbours were stunned as thick black smoke was seen for miles around in Mount Nod, with some saying they smelt the smokiness and saw a lot of 'commotion' with emergency services and police at the scene.

The driver was pulled from the flamed car, before being taken to hospital and didn't sustain any life-threatening injuries. West Midlands Police[2] arrested the driver on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

The aftermath shows the charred flames which damaged the green space at the front of the house, plus the front window unsecure with the crippled bricks laying on the front porch, curating mess and dust.

CoventryLive[4] spoke to some residents within the area who saw the incident occur last night.

One local resident said the incident was very "quick and sudden": "We drove past and saw lots of police and ambulance, and you smell the smoke from a mile away."

Another local resident added: "We weren't at home initially, but when we got back, we saw a lot of black smoke in the air. I went over this morning to check the damage and it was horrendous."

Sarah, who lives on the adjacent road on Beausale Croft, said: "I couldn't believe the commotion on the road yesterday, there was a lot going on. The smoke had reduced when I saw it, but the vehicle was all damaged at the back, and dented inwards, including the tyre at the back."

Myles, who lives with his partner on Alderminster Road, said: "We were at home in the garden and we could smell smoke, but thought someone was doing a barbecue, so didn't think much of it. It's only when we heard lots of sirens, we came outside and walked down to see a car on fire and the side of the house in flames. There were lots of people looking around stunned."

West Midlands Ambulance Service[5] said three ambulances were sent to the scene: "Upon arrival, we found a man who was the driver of the car. He had sustained serious injuries that were not life threatening. He received treatment at the scene and was conveyed to University Hospital Coventry for further assessment," a spokesperson said.

West Midlands Police said they are in the early stages of their investigation, and any witness or people with information should contact "Live Chat via our website or by ring 101 quoting log number 4568 of 13 June."
