Moment Flying Scotsman pulls into Nuneaton – but trainspotters feel …
This is the moment the iconic Flying Scotsman train pulled into Nuneaton[1] Railway Station – while dozens of fans packed the platform to witness its arrival. People crowded the platform to watch the magnificent engine at the station, where it was due to spend just three minutes this morning before departing.
But trainspotters, many armed with cameras, were let down after their view was blocked by another, domestic train at the station. The Flying Scotsman had set off from London Euston after 6am today and fans all across the country gathered at various stations or along the route to catch a glimpse.
But sadly, at Nuneaton, many trainspotters were just left disappointed.
Nigel Branston lives in Hinckley and loves watching trains, so he made the special journey to Nuneaton to see ‘The Cheshireman’.
He told CoventryLive he wanted a video for his YouTube channel Nigel J B and platform 1 at Nuneaton was the only place to get a really good view. He kindly sent us the video used at the top of this story.
He said: “I love trains – watching the iconic trains – and this was the cherry on the cake. Nuneaton platform 1 was the only place you could view the engine and there were a good 300+ people there.
“I overheard one of the platform staff saying the orange train was moving before the Flying Scotsman arrived so as I was central on the platform I stayed where I was. Clearly this was a mistake on my behalf as the F Scot pulled in early and I had no chance to move for a better view.
“Although staff had said move up the platform early it was just to packed. From what I could make out the F Scot engine was past the end of the platform so you couldn’t have got a good view of it. Not good at all.
“Although I got to see the train for a few seconds I feel a little let down as if knowing it was arriving early I could have moved down the platform more so not having a big orange train in my view.”
Another one of our readers Kate Creagh told us: “Viewing was from platform 1 and there was another train in the way.
“Nobody at Nuneaton Station got to see it unless they had a ticket to board. Complete farce, Nuneaton at its best.”
