Milton roads could see 20mph speed limit introduced to create ‘safer …

The speed limit could be reduced on a number of roads in a Cambridgeshire village. Cambridgeshire County Council is running a consultation on lowering the limit to 20mph in Milton.

The new speed limit would cover Butt Lane from its junction with High Street westbound for 579 metres. It would also cover the full lengths of Ken’s Way, Fox’s Close, Lyndhurst Close and Coulson Close.

In its statement of reasons, Cambridgeshire County Council[1] said it hoped to reduce the speed limit to avoid ‘danger to persons or other traffic using the road or any other road or for preventing the likelihood of any such danger arising’.

It said: “The proposed 20mph speed limit is intended to reduce traffic[3] speeds and will result in a safer environment for all road users. The width, alignment and character of the roads mean that the lower speed limit is expected to be largely self-enforcing.”

It added: “The speed reduction has been requested due to the location of the primary school, the level of existing on street parking, and to create a safer road environment for vulnerable road users.”

Members of the public are invited to have their say on the idea until June 14. Comments can be submitted to Cambridgeshire County Council here.[4]
