Man dies after being struck by lorry in horror crash on Glasgow road

A MAN has died after being knocked down by a lorry in the east end of Glasgow.

Emergency services[1] raced to the scene on Duke Street this morning[2] at 10.40am.

Officers also scrambled to the area, near the junction with Bellfield Street, after receiving reports of the crash.

When they arrived, they discovered that a 44-year-old man was seriously injured.

He was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, in Glasgow[3], in an ambulance.

But he was tragically pronounced dead a short time later.

The driver of the Mercedes lorry, a 45-year-old woman, was uninjured.

Police[4] locked down the street while a full crash investigation was carried out.

Bellgrove Street to Whitehill Street was sealed off and drivers were urged to use an alternate route.

Photos from the scene this afternoon showed numerous police vehicles, including a van, in attendance.

A pile of clothes and a shopping bag were also spotted on the road.

Officers stood guard as blue tape sectioned off the large area of the road.

Police have confirmed that enquires into the circumstances behind the crash are currently ongoing.

They are appealing for anyone with information about the crash to come forward.

They are urging anyone who may have seen something, or anyone who may have witnessed the crash, to speak with officers.

Sergeant James Crawford of the Divisional Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died.

“Our enquiries are at an early stage and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash take place who has not yet spoken to police to contact us.

“Anyone with information should contact officers through 101 with reference number 1390 of 1 June.”

Scottish Ambulance Service[5] spokesperson said: “We received a call at 10.36 to attend an incident on Duke Street, Glasgow.

"Two ambulances, a special operations response team (SORT) and a trauma team were dispatched to the scene.

"One patient was transported to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.”
