A man has died following a serious road crash involving a lorry in Glasgow’s east end on Thursday morning.

Duke Street in the Dennistoun area of the city was closed shortly before 11am on Thursday, June 1, from Bellgrove Street to Whitehill Street following the incident, understood to be a hit and run.

A number of police and ambulance vehicles were seen in the area and drivers were advised to take a different route.

The 44-year-old man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he later died, police said.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 10.36am to attend an incident on Duke Street, Glasgow.

“Two ambulances, a special operations response team (SORT) and a trauma team were dispatched to the scene and one patient was transported to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.”

The road was closed for around three hours before reopening to traffic.

Police are now appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

Sergeant James Crawford of the Divisional Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died.

“Our enquiries are at an early stage and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash take place who has not yet spoken to police to contact us.

“Anyone with information should contact officers through 101 with reference number 1390 of 1 June.”
