M6 drivers hit with NINE-MILE traffic queues near Greater Manchester
Drivers faced huge delays on the M6 near Greater Manchester following a 'spillage' on the road. Motorists were warned to expect delays of 45 minutes on the southbound carriageway, just past Wigan[1].
One lane was closed between junctions 21, for Warrington and Irlam, and junction 20 for the M56. But queues are tailing back for nine miles, towards junction 24 at Ashton-in-Makerfield.
A spokesperson for National Highways wrote on Twitter: "NEW INCIDENT. M6 southbound between J21 Warrington and J20 M56 (@manairport).
