M6 and M42 overnight closures start today as HS2 works carried out
Parts of the M6 and M42 northbound will be closed this week due to overnight HS2 works. The M6 will be shut from today (June 14) until Monday (June 19) between Junction 4 for Coleshill and Junction 4A for Water Orton, BirminghamLive reports.[1][2][3]
The northbound will be closed between 9pm and 5am on these dates, as well as M42 northbound at Junction 7 onto the M6 northbound, during the same time and dates.
The HS2 works will include installing temporary safety barriers and repainting road markings to create narrow lanes. Motorists are being asked to plan ahead to avoid delays to their journeys.
Here are the diversions that will be in place this week:
M6 northbound diversion
- Northbound traffic on the M6 will be directed to exit at junction 4 onto the A446 to junction 9 of the M42.
- Traffic will then be directed south down the M42 exiting at junction 8 then back on to the northbound carriageway of the M6.
M42 diversion

Traffic wishing to exit the M42 on to the northbound carriageway of the M6 will be directed up to junction 9 of the M42 then back down the southbound carriageway of the M42 exiting at junction 8 back onto the M6 northbound.
