M5 to close this weekend as National Grid carry out electrical work

A stretch of the M5 will be closed for two nights this weekend to allow the National Grid to carry out vital electrical works. It comes as part of the Hinkley Connection project, which will deliver home grown low-carbon energy to six million homes and businesses across the South West.

The motorway is set to be closed in both directions between junctions 19 and 21. The closure will take effect between 10pm and 5am on both Saturday (June 10) and Sunday night.

As reported by SomersetLive[1], there will be full diversion routes in place heading both northbound and southbound. Drivers should expect some disruption and leave extra time for their journeys.

Firstly, those heading northbound should leave the motorway at junction 21 before heading along the A370 and the A4 before re-joining at junction 18. There is an additional diversion route for light vehicles only from Clevedon along the B3130 and B3128 to the A370.

Meanwhile, those heading southbound should leave at junction 18 before heading along the A4 and A370 before re-joining the motorway at junction 21. There is an additional diversion route for light vehicles only from J19 along the A369 and B3128 to the A370.
