M1 crashes in both directions and air ambulance called

Two different crashes are causing long delays and closures on the M1 this morning. One incident is believed to have happened on the Northbound carriageway at around 7.30am and is between J21 and J21A, while the second is on the Southbound between J23 and J22.

Lanes three and four were closed to motorists on the M1 Northbound, but have since been reopened. However the closures have caused heavy traffic and congestion on both the M1 and M69[1].

The Northbound is also fully closed further up to allow an air ambulance to land. The M1 Southbound is currently fully closed.

There's long delays in the area, with emergency services in attendance at both scenes. The Northbound incident is believed to be close to Leicester Forest East[2] services.
