Lorry catches fire near garden centre as road closed in both directions

The A85 was closed in both directions after a lorry caught fire near a garden centre in Perth.

Fire crews were called to the scene on the A85, near Dobbies Garden Centre, in Huntingtower at around 3.30pm on Tuesday.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

The A85 was closed in both directions while emergency services dealt with the blaze, with traffic slowing in the area.

Stagecoach East Scotland confirmed it was diverting all services in the area through Ruthvenfield due to the blaze.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 3.30pm on Tuesday, June 13 to reports of a vehicle fire in Perth.

“Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the city’s Crieff Road, where firefighters extinguished a fire which had taken hold of a van.

“Crews left the scene after working to make the area safe. There were no casualties.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4pm on Tuesday, June 13 officers were called to assist emergency services following a vehicle fire on Crieff Road, Perth.

“The road is reopened at 4.45pm.”
