Live updates as rail passengers warned and M4 delays start early …

Traffic has eased on the M4 in south Wales on Friday after an afternoon of heavy delays. The good weather and several events going on in Cardiff city centre added to normal Friday afternoon delays as well as rail passengers having "extremely limited" services.

Friday saw Blondie playing at Cardiff Castle, Wales taking on Armenia at the Cardiff City Stadium, Peter Kay performing at the Cardiff International Arena and the Inspiral Carpets at the Tramshed. On Friday evening there were delays of up to 50 minutes in both directions on the M4 near Newport.

Great Western Railway also warned that engineering works in the Severn Tunnel meant it was only providing an extremely limited service. A signal fault in the Gloucester area this morning also affected the levels of service into and out of south Wales. The operator urged passengers to allow extra time and check both outward and return journeys.

Transport within Welsh cities was impacted by the traffic with Newport Bus facing significant delays or cancellations on several services.

Of course - everyone still has to get home safely from all the events taking place this evening so there could be more problems later.
